An example of the waste came to light when a report by the White House's Council of Economic Advisors, a group of economists who were handpicked by President Obama, gave a realistic picture of the 'success' of the so-called 'economic stimulus package' of 2009. They concluded that the average cost per job created through the stimulus was $278,000. To explain this in another way, the government could have given $100,000 to everyone who obtained employment through the stimulus deal, and saved taxpayers $427 billion! The 'help' of that government plan was extremely wasteful; it neither spurred the economy nor created jobs.
