2022 State of the Union address: on Budget & Economy

Chuck Morse: We need to lower borrowing, control federal spending

We cannot borrow our way to lower inflation; we need to lower borrowing, increase American energy production, and control federal spending. The Democrats need to get serious about inflation and it starts by reducing federal spending and allow American energy to begin producing our way back to energy independence.

Joe Biden: Grow America from the bottom up and the middle out

In fact--our economy created over 6.5 million new jobs just last year, more jobs created in one year than ever before in the history of America. Our economy grew at a rate of 5.7% last year, the strongest growth in nearly 40 years, the first step in bringing fundamental change to an economy that hasn't worked for the working people of this nation for too long.

For the past 40 years we were told that if we gave tax breaks to those at the very top, the benefits would trickle down to everyone else. But that trickle-down theory led to weaker economic growth, lower wages, bigger deficits, and the widest gap between those at the top and everyone else in nearly a century.

Vice President Harris and I ran for office with a new economic vision for America. Invest in America. Educate Americans. Grow the workforce. Build the economy from the bottom up and the middle out, not from the top down. Because we know that when the middle class grows, the poor have a ladder up and the wealthy do very well.

Joe Biden: Only president to cut the deficit by $1 trillion in one year

By the end of this year, the deficit will be down to less than half what it was before I took office. The only president ever to cut the deficit by more than one trillion dollars in a single year.

Kim Reynolds: Price at the pump up 50%; inflation at 40-year high

The President and Democrats in Congress have spent the last year either ignoring the issues facing Americans or making them worse. They were warned that spending trillions would lead to soaring inflation. They were told their anti-energy policies would send gas prices to new heights. But they plowed ahead anyway, raising the price at the pump by 50% and pushing inflation to a 40-year high.

Rashida Tlaib: GOP/corporate-backed Democratic obstructionists blocked plan

[Progressive Caucus response to President Biden's State of the Union speech]: "No one fought harder for President Biden's agenda than progressives," she said, adding that "two forces" stood in the way of passing Build Back Better, Biden's major climate and social spending package. "A Republican Party that serves only the rich and powerful, and just enough corporate-backed Democratic obstructionists to help them succeed," she listed.
