2023 State of the Union address: on Immigration

Delia Ramirez: We must finally pass comprehensive immigration reform

12 million of our neighbors still lack legal status and face deportation--when all they want to do is to contribute to their communities. My husband, Boris, is a Dreamer who has lived in the U.S. since the age of 14. He's lived here longer than he lived in Guatemala growing up. This is personal for me. I know what it's like to live with that uncertainty and fear and it's why we must do everything in our power to finally pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders: Worst border crisis in history: drugs pouring in

Despite Democrats' trillions in reckless spending and mountains of debt, we now have the worst border crisis in American history. As a mom, my heart breaks for every parent who has lost a son or daughter to addiction. 100,000 Americans a year are now killed from drug overdoses, largely from fentanyl pouring in across our southern border. Yet the Biden administration refuses to secure the border and save American lives.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders: FactCheck: Biden continued Trump's border funding & policies

[On increasing border security]: "President Biden inherited ...the most secure border in history. Yet the Biden administration refuses to secure the border and save American lives. President Biden is unwilling to defend our border, defend our skies, and defend our people."

FactCheck by PolitiFact, 2/8/23Border security funding under Biden is comparable to funding under Trump's administration. Border Patrol staffing has remained fairly consistent despite long-term hiring and retention challenges. Immigration border laws and policies continue to be enforced under Biden's presidency. Despite halting the building of additional miles of barriers, Biden's administration has used previously appropriated funds to repair barriers and close gaps.
