2023 State of the Union address: on War & Peace

Joe Biden: America is united in support of Ukraine as long as it takes

Together, we did what America always does at our best. We led. We united NATO and built a global coalition. We stood against Putin's aggression.

We stood with the Ukrainian people. Tonight, we are once again joined by Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States. She represents not just her nation, but the courage of her people. Ambassador, America is united in our support for your country. We will stand with you as long as it takes.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders: Soldiers deserve to know we fight for freedom in US

A young soldier came up to me and said, 'Sarah, you have a tough job.' I told him 'What I do is nothing. You take bombs and bullets. That's a tough job.' That young man and everyone who has served before him, all of those who serve alongside him, and the thousands we know who will be called upon to serve after him, deserve to know they have a country and community back home doing our part in the fight for freedom.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders: FactCheck: World was not "at peace" when Trump left office

[On world peace]: "President Biden inherited...a rebuilt military and a world that was stable and at peace. Beyond our border from Afghanistan to Ukraine, from North Korea to Iran, President Biden's weakness puts our nation and the world at risk and the President's refusal to stand up to China, our most formidable adversary, is dangerous and unacceptable."

FactCheck by CNN (2/8/23): Sanders claimed that after Trump left office, Biden inherited "a world that was stable and at peace." When Trump left the White House in 2021, there were still plenty of wars ongoing around the world. For instance, Trump did not end the war in Afghanistan, which was still ongoing when Biden took office. There were thousands of US troops in the country when Biden was sworn in, before he withdrew them all in 2021.
