Donald Trump: Gasoline is now below $2.30/gal [FactCheck: False]

In 12 months, my administration has driven core inflation down to the lowest level in more than five years. And in the last three months of 2025, it was down to 1.7 percent. Gasoline, which reached a peak of over $6 a gallon in some states. Under my predecessor, it was quite honestly a disaster; it is now below $2.30 a gallon in most states and in some places $1.99 a gallon. And when I visited the great state of Iowa just a few weeks ago, I even saw $1.85 a gallon for gasoline.

OnTheIssues FactCheck of prices from GasPrices.AAA.com: Trump's figure is false, no matter how it's interpreted. Today’s AAA National Average gas price is $2.98 per gallon, for regular gasoline. The lowest price in any state is in Iowa, with a price of $2.48/gal. There are no states below $2.30/gal, and none at $1.85/gal. There has been no time during 2026 (or 2025) when the price of gasoline was below $2.30/gal. The last time gas was below $2.30/gal was at the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
