Marcia Squier in Past and present Senate candidates from Michigan
On Abortion:
Fund Planned Parenthood; abortion is an unrestricted right
Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Abortion is a woman's unrestricted right"?A: Support.
Q: What about federal funding for Planned Parenthood? And for abortion services in general?
A: I support funding for Planned Parenthood and funding for abortion services for poorer women in general. I would also advocate for more sex education and contraceptive availability.

On Civil Rights:
Support affirmative action and reparations like urban repair
Q: Do you support legally requiring hiring more women & minorities?A: This question is vague with regards to who would be required and what "more" means.
Q: Well, what do you think of affirmative action in hiring practices? In college admissions?
I.e., requiring that companies hire "more" women, that colleges admit "more" minorities?
A: I support Affirmative Action i.e. requiring more hiring and admissions into higher education (college, vocational, trade schools).
Q: You responded to the
Michigan VotersGuide survey in 2016 that "reparations need to heal the racial divisiveness"--did you mean legal reparations like hiring more minorities? Or financial reparations?
A: I support both legal reparations like affirmative action & financial
reparations, along with focusing on repairing urban decay instead of suburban sprawl. The non-white community has suffered enough at the hands of our predominantly white male dominated government. It's time to address it and take responsibility for it.

On Energy & Oil:
Green energy is intertwined with job creation and education
Q: Do you support or oppose prioritizing green energy?A: Strongly support.
Q: You posted on Facebook on July 13 that you would fund renewables by "reappropriating military funding," but included a panoply of other spending items from the same
source. How will renewables get funded in comparison to (and in competition with) all of those other spending items? Similarly, you responded to the 2016 Michigan VotersGuide question on job creation that you would "concentrate. efforts in renewable
energy," along with another long list of other programs to concentrate on. If you "concentrate" on a long list of programs, how do you "prioritize" green energy over the rest of the programs?
A: Expanding the green energy industry will create jobs.
But first, we need an educated workforce that can handle the growing industry. I believe that all of these things are intertwined, and therefore must all happen--somewhat simultaneously or in quick succession.

On Environment:
End the War on Oil, for national security AND environment
Regarding prioritizing green energy: We need to be off the grid with renewables ASAP, not only for national security reasons, but also for environmental and humane reasons. Our current government exploits fossil fuel resources and uses interventionism
to disguise it. In order to end the War on Oil, and the deaths of millions of innocent people (mostly non-white), we need alternative sources of fuel. Expanding the green energy industry will create jobs, which will create more taxable revenue for the
States, enabling more things like infrastructure repair and other restorative measures. But first, we need an educated workforce that can handle the growing industry.
I believe that all of these things are intertwined, and therefore must all happen-- somewhat simultaneously or in quick succession.

On Foreign Policy:
End our interventionist strategies, and welcome refugees
Q: Do you support "American Exceptionalism "? Generally those who support American Exceptionalism mean they support sending American troops abroad to keep the world safe for democracy. You posted on Facebook on Memorial Day that you "Support our
Veterans" by "bring[ing] home our Troops." Domestically, those who support American Exceptionalism generally support a moratorium on refugees and support stricter immigration rules too, but you responded to our
VoteMatch question that you support a "Pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens". So do you support "American Exceptionalism"?A: I do not support it. I want to end our interventionist strategies and bring our troops home.
I do support giving immigrants a more welcoming path to citizenship, and we need to end the refugee crisis by working towards a ceasefire in the Middle East.

On Government Reform:
Easier voter registration; restrict superdelegates
Q: Do you support easier voter registration?A: Strongly support.
Q: You posted on CrowdPAC on July 13, "Michigan's voice didn't matter because each superdelegate vote negated thousands of votes." How would you change the superdelegate rules?
A:
I am not a Democrat, so I would have no pull within that party to change their rules, but I would support legislation that forced the Democratic Party to pay for its own primaries instead of the states if they continue to weight the vote totals this way.

On Budget & Economy:
Stimulus counters ever-growing income inequality
Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Stimulus better than market-led recovery"?A: Support. Stimulus is needed due to the ever-growing income inequality. The middle class is disappearing and the lower class is growing astronomically, while the
wealthiest become even wealthier, using tax loopholes and other means to continue this rift. Since the wealthiest people don't seem to be in a hurry to help their fellow man, stimulus is needed to ensure a higher quality of life for the rest of us.

On Drugs:
Cannabis is a life-saving drug and must be legalized
Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Marijuana is a gateway drug"?
A: Strongly oppose. Cannabis is a life-saving drug and must be fully, retroactively legalized. In fact, the entire War on Drugs must end, treating drug addictions as a medical issue as opposed to a criminal one.

On Environment:
EPA should regulate for-profit corporations
Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Fight EPA regulatory over-reach"?
A: Oppose: I support the EPA regulating businesses/corporations, which are profit-driven and therefore often disregard environmental impacts.

Expand ObamaCare towards universal health care

On Principles & Values:
Government should be separate from private religion
Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Keep God in the public sphere"?A:
Oppose in the sense that while people have the right to their own religion, or lack thereof, the government should be separate from private religion, and governmental agents/agencies should not promote or vilify any particular religion.

On Energy & Oil:
Fund renewables by defunding the military
I want to repeal/replace the Help America Vote Act, the Telecommunications Act, the Controlled Substances Act [illegalizing marijuana], the Patriot Act, the NDAA, & the DARK Act [requiring limited GMO labelling]. I also want to reappropriate
military funding towards renewables (off the grid), education, health care, and infrastructure. Regarding trade, I only support bilateral trade agreements. No multinational trade agreements.

On Government Reform:
Dem. superdelegates cheated Michigan voters of their choice
[Marcia Squier's posting on CrowdPAC.com, "Why you should support Marcia Squier"]: I had never belonged to any party, but had been an active voter for over 20 years.
I joined the green party in the summer of 2016, after it was revealed that the Democratic Party had a solid candidate for president, but they cheated him at every level imaginable.
I ran as a green party candidate against a superdelegate in Congress who, along with every other Michigan superdelegate, voted unanimously against the candidate [Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT] who won the Michigan democratic primaries.
I felt like Michigan's voice didn't matter because each superdelegate vote negated tens of thousands of votes.

On Jobs:
Stop stiffing tipped worker wages!
I support raising the lowest of minimum wages in the land! Tipped workers should not make next to nothing and rely solely on tips to survive! My last job as a server at Chili's wouldn't even allow me to discuss this fact with customers!
I absolutely hated getting stiffed after busting my behind for $3/hr! It seriously made me start hating people in general... which is why I ultimately quit. I simply couldn't stand being overworked AND underappreciated.

On Drugs:
Legalization will help utilize the endless benefits of pot
I want less regulation and more freedom for cannabis, hemp, and the people who use it. I want full, federal retroactive legalization for all. Adults 18+ should be able to freely grow it and use it, and claim it as legal income if they sell it.
People under 18 should be able to get prescriptions the same as adults would. We also need more research into the seemingly endless benefits of cannabis and hemp.

On Foreign Policy:
We need to support our troops by bringing them home
On this Memorial Day, 2017, I am thinking about all those who died so that we might live. I am also thinking about all those who joined the military simply because of a lack of better career opportunities.
I envision a time when our military is, at most, half of its current size and Peace breaks out all over the world through education and communication. Support our Veterans, and bring home our Troops.

On Drugs:
Legalization of pot will help healthcare costs
Q: What do you think about the legalization of pot?A: I think we need to decriminalize cannabis because that would also reduce healthcare costs.
For people to be able to get that life saving remedy at a reasonable rate. I think adults should be able to grow it in their backyard and I think cellars should be able to claim it as legal income.

On Health Care:
Universal single-payer healthcare is the way to go
Q: What do you think about healthcare?
A: I really feel the move for single pay, in other words universal healthcare, Medicare for all, public option, all of those are the same thing and I think those are the way to go.

On War & Peace:
Refuse donations from the military-industrial complex
Q: What is your position on foreign policy?A: I am a very anti war candidate. Pro peace. I would refuse any and all donations from the military industrial complex.
Similarly to the Green party platform I want to reduce military spending. And thus reduce the refugee crisis.
