On Budget & Economy: OpEd: Wall Street image clashed during foreclosure crisis

Without rehashing the Christie-Corzine campaign, Corzine did accomplish some good as governor. However, he never could overcome the severe national crisis of home foreclosures, the hemorrhaging of jobs leaving NJ and an economic recession topped only by the Great Depression. The fact that Corzine could not overcome those difficulties was a major problem. A bigger problem was his utter lack of charisma.

Putting it bluntly, Jon Corzine was a terrible communicator. He never did get the message of successes he had as governor across to the public. What people saw in Chris Christie during the campaign was a tough- talking, no nonsense guy, much like themselves. Corzine was viewed as a stand-offish Wall Street type whose own personal wealth couldn't empathize with the public's daily struggle with everyday life.
