Trump Cabinet members actions and issues: on Abortion

Scott Pruitt: Double headline - Already Done

Scott Pruitt lamented that "minority religions" were pushing Christianity out of "the public square" and advocated amending the Constitution to ban abortion, prohibit same-sex marriage and protect the Pledge of Allegiance and the Ten Commandments, according to a newly unearthed series of Oklahoma talk radio shows from 2005.

Throughout the programs, Pruitt suggested that states might need to call a constitutional convention to propose amendments that would allow expression of religion in government, declare abortion illegal and bar same-sex marriage.

Pruitt acknowledged some trepidation about holding a constitutional convention, which could make wholesale changes to the nation's founding charter.

"It scares me to a large degree to go into something like a constitutional convention, 'cause that means that we're going to have to really be educated, and informed, and debate," he said. "But you know what? Maybe it's time."

Andrew Puzder: Author of controversy: life begins at conception

For proposing the anti-abortion concept that life begins at conception, he earned the sobriquet "author of controversy." Missouri was a fulcrum of conservative backlash to Roe v Wade, and Puzder was the state's most prominent anti-abortion lawyer. "My goal was to switch the discussion from whether abortion was a privacy issue or a woman's rights issue to whether it is the taking of another life," Puzder told the St Louis Post-Dispatch in 1989.

Sonny Perdue: Parental notification for minors

During his 2002 run for governor, Perdue won the endorsement of Georgia Right to Life. The next year, Perdue urged legislators to send an informed consent measure to his desk requiring those seeking an abortion to wait 24 hours after receiving state- mandated information on what Perdue called "the physical and psychological damages that occur afterwards." That law, which included a provision requiring parental notification for minors, was passed and signed by Perdue in 2005.

Larry Kudlow: Trump's support of late-term abortion ban is "gift from god"

[President Trump's] support of a ban on late-term partial-birth abortion was a heaven-sent gift from God. Trump's opposition to abortion, in general, is a wonderful thing. So is his pledge to nominate pro-life judges, and his related idea that if pro-life judges overturn Roe v. Wade, that's fine. Send abortion back to the states where it started. So I sincerely hope that in Gettysburg, just as President Lincoln defended the ending of slavery, Trump continues to defend the life of the unborn.
