Previous Occupation:   Physician (Ob/Gyn). Claims to have delivered half the babies in Brazoria County (his partner delivered the other half), giving him a great advantage among voters who are mothers.

Previous Office:    
  • First ran for Congress in 1974 (losing to Bob Casey); won the 1976 special election when Casey was appointed by Gerald Ford.
  • Lost 1976 general election; won again in 1978, and served in Congress for 6 years.
  • Ran for US Senate in 1984; lost

    Education:    Track star in High School; graduated Gettysburg College (PA) in 1957, majoring in Biology; Duke University School of Medicine 1961; residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

    Birth:    Aug 20, 1935, Green Tree, Pennsylvania

    Spouse:    Married Carolyn "Carol" Wells, his high-school sweetheart, on February 1, 1957.
    Children: Ronnie Paul, Jr.; Lori Paul Pyeatt; Rand Paul; Robert Paul; Joy Paul-LeBlanc. 18 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

    Religion:    Married in Presbyterian Church; all 5 children were baptized Episcopalian.

    Military:    Drafted into U.S. Air Force in 1963; served active duty as a flight surgeon until 1965; but never stationed in Vietnam. Retired as Captain.
