Richard Mourdock on Gun Control

No additional restrictions on gun ownership

Q: What is your view on the statement, "Absolute right to gun ownership"?

A: I am a pro-Second Amendment candidate and oppose additional restriction on gun ownership by law-abiding citizens.

Oppose anti-gun Supreme Court nominees

On Supreme Court Nominees: Mourdock would have voted against Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, citing clear evidence of their strongly held liberal biases toward government supported legal abortion and their openness to weakening our 2nd amendment rights to bear arms. Mourdock believes that judges should respect the original intent of the Founders when interpreting the meaning of the Constitution.

Right to keep and bear arms is an individual right

Dick Lugar earns a "D+" rating from the NRA and an "F" from the Gun Owners of America for being a strong advocate of gun control. Lugar has voted for the "assault weapons" ban, the Brady Bill, the DC handgun ban and other gun control legislation.

Richard Mourdock previously earned an "A" rating from the NRA. He understands that gun control does not equal crime control and that the right to keep and bear arms is an individual right guaranteed by the Constitution.

Opposes restricting the Second Amendment.

Mourdock opposes the CC Voters Guide question on the Second Amendment

Christian Coalition publishes a number of special voter educational materials including the Christian Coalition Voter Guides, which provide voters with critical information about where candidates stand on important faith and family issues. The Christian Coalition Voters Guide summarizes candidate stances on the following topic: "Further restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms"
