$700 million in aid to localities; make consolidation easier

10,500 local governments, these are towns, villages, and sewage districts. We have a proliferation of government that is exceedingly expensive and costly. Now the state has been very aggressive in trying to alleviate the burden from local governments. We have assumed more local costs than the state government has ever done in modern political history. We are funding $700 million in aid to localities, plus the Tier VI pension reforms. We also offered local governments that are functionally insolvent financial assistance if they worked with our financial restructuring board. When I was Attorney General, we actually passed a law that made consolidations easier for local governments. Since we passed that law how many local governments have actually consolidated? Two.

It is time to stop making excuse it is time to start making progress: if the locality wants the state property tax credit it must perform. We have seen that linking state funding to performance works.

Replace Indian Point nuclear facility; it is too dangerous

New York is home to some of the greatest natural resources in the world. We need to protect our environment to make sure that we leave our State clean and inhabitable for generations to come. As Governor, Andrew Cuomo will continue to be an environmental champion, by pushing to find alternative sources of energy generation to replace Indian Point nuclear facility because it is too dangerous to continue operating.
