Mary Fallin on Gun Control

Republican

Gun ownership is a constitutionally protected right

In Oklahoma, we respect the Constitution and the rule of law. We own guns for hunting, sport and self defense, and we are proud of that tradition. It is a tradition that we share with our Founding Fathers, who made gun ownership a constitutionally protected right.

Right to bear arms is in Constitution for a good reason

I believe that the basic freedoms assured by our Constitution, including speech, religion, assembly AND the right to keep and bear arms--are there for a good reason, and must be defended against those who would threaten them.

The Second Amendment means exactly what it says, and I will defend the right of every law-abiding citizen to own guns. Responsible gun ownership is a basic right, and I will never vote for legislation that abridges that right.

I am a member in good standing with the NRA.
