Rocky De La Fuente on Education

Empower parents and older children; personalized curriculum

Universal preschool programs and kindergarten are essential for starting our children off on the right foot. Empower parents and older children. We need to give parents more control over the education of their children. Create and support non-accredited schools that focus on blending a specialized and more personalized curriculum with project-based assessment and apprenticeship.

Funding for those in need, but not everyone needs college

I would like to see us find a way to finance education for those who need such assistance. I would favor constructing a free education system, but we would need to identify the funding mechanisms before launching such a curriculum. Not everyone needs a college education, nor do some people with a college education have the prerequisite skills to effectively provide some of the vital labor talents that our nation also demands and depends on.

Keep college graduates in Florida after graduation

Florida is blessed with a wonderful system of universities and colleges, but we have an intellectual trade imbalance. What I mean by that is we are a net exporter of talent. Our college graduates often move out-of-state in search of better and higher-paying jobs. We need to fix that by leveraging our state's natural advantages (i.e., its magnificent climate, breathtaking beaches, and obvious tax advantages) to attract business that will bring opportunities and higher-paying jobs to Florida.
