On Abortion: She will always fight to protect a woman's right to choose

Helena is proudly pro-choice. She believes that a woman's right to choose is between her and her doctor--and no politician or government has a right to interfere. As Rhode Island's governor, she will always fight to protect a woman's right to choose.

On Budget & Economy: A strong supporter of the line-item veto, accountability

Helena is a strong supporter of good government measures, particularly the line-item veto. Rhode Island is currently one of only six states without a line-item veto, preventing full accountability in our government. Helena has also called for a public audit of all state spending of federal relief dollars. From her career in business, she knows that accountability is critical, and she is committed to bringing more transparency to state government.

On Civil Rights: Supports state amendment to protect marriage equality

Helena is a fierce advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community. In light of the Supreme Court's recent actions, it's more important than ever that Rhode Island has a governor who will do everything in their power to protect LBGTQIA+ rights. Helena will support a constitutional amendment here in Rhode Island that would specifically protect marriage equality. And if the Supreme Court were to overturn marriage equality, Helena would fiercely protect Rhode Island's existing state law.

On Energy & Oil: Make Rhode Island a leader in clean, affordable energy

The threat from climate change is serious and deserves serious solutions. One of Helena's top priorities will be protecting our state against the effects of climate change. On Government Reform: Ensure citizens can exercise their right to vote

Rhode Island makes it far too difficult for our people to vote, but the good news is that with the right policies, we can fix that. That's why leadership at the state level matters now more than ever. And we have a lot of work to do here at home. Last year, we were the only state with Democratic leaders that failed to expand voting rights. Despite being a heavily Democratic state, Rhode Island has a lot of work to do to ensure that our citizens can exercise their constitutional right to vote.

She also understands what our existing businesses of all sizes - small, medium, and large - need to grow and thrive. As governor, she will work to cut onerous red tape, make it easier for Rhode Islanders to start their own business, and create jobs in high-growth industries.

On Gun Control: Ban the sale of high-capacity magazines and assault weapons

Gun violence has taken far too many lives in Rhode Island and across the country. But Rhode Island's gun safety laws are significantly more lax than our neighboring states of Massachusetts and Connecticut. In addition to proposing investments in mental health supports, Helena has publicly called for Rhode Island to ban the sale of high-capacity magazines and assault weapons. As governor, she will work with the General Assembly to pass common-sense legislation to keep our kids and families safe.

She also worked with the Obama administration to boost insurance enrollment after the passage of the Affordable Care Act, and later with the Raimondo administration to strengthen healthcare in Rhode Island.

On Tax Reform: $500 tax cut for anyone earning less than $100,000

As Rhode Islanders feel increasingly priced out of our state due to record inflation and the rising costs of childcare, housing and gas, Helena has called on Governor McKee to use a portion of the state's budget surplus to give a $500 tax cut to anyone earning less than $100,000. The tax credit would benefit more than 400,000 Rhode Island earners.
