2023 Governor's State of the State speeches: on Free Trade

Josh Green: Reposition our economy to pursue global opportunities

We are the center of the Pacific linking together Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and the broader United States. In the coming years, we will reposition our economy to pursue global opportunities--retooling tourism, developing green technologies, and expanding our reach into international markets for our small businesses and our world-class professional sector. We are working on new plans to increase the export of locally-made and locally-grown products with our regional partners.

Mike Parson: Invest in semiconductor manufacturing, won't rely on China

A serious hurdle for our manufacturing companies here in Missouri and across the nation is the semiconductor chip supply chain. To address this issue?for the first time?we are dedicating $25 million dollars for research, program development, and training to increase our competitiveness for semiconductor manufacturing right here in Missouri. The last thing we want is to rely on China when we CAN and WILL do it right here in Missouri.

Glenn Youngkin: Prohibit Chinese Communist tech & purchases of farmland

Last month, I signed an Executive Order banning TikTok and WeChat on state-owned devices. Everyone knows that TikTok is a tool of the Chinese Communist Party, a dictatorial political party that only has one goal: global dominance at the expense of the United States.

While the national security concerns and personal privacy implications of CCP technology are well-known, I believe Virginians should also be wary of Chinese Communist intrusion into Virginia's economy.

I've said before that I want "Made in America" to mean "Made in Virginia." But let me be clear, "Made in Virginia" cannot be a front for the Chinese Communist Party. In addition, Virginians--not the CCP--should own the rich and vibrant agricultural lands God has blessed us with. That is why I am asking the General Assembly to send me a bill to prohibit dangerous foreign entities tied to the CCP from purchasing Virginia farmland.
