2023 Governor's State of the State speeches: on Immigration

Brad Little: Secure the border to stop supply of fentanyl from Mexico

I have seen for myself how Mexico drug cartels control access into our country under the current administration. The vast majority of illicit drugs in Idaho, including fentanyl, are sourced in Mexico. We will not relent in our efforts to end the supply of fentanyl by continuing to work with our states to the south and helping to secure our border.

Greg Gianforte: Secure our southern border now, stop neglecting it

With chemicals largely from China, Mexican drug cartels mass-produce fentanyl. Then, they bring it into our country, often over our southern border. This fentanyl crisis is a direct consequence of our nation's insecure and porous southern border. So tonight, I have a message for President Biden and members of Congress: secure our southern border now. Stop neglecting it. Secure it. The safety of our communities, our families, and our people depends on it.

Katie Hobbs: $40M for scholarships regardless of immigration status

But we're not stopping there. In line with the will of Arizona's voters in passing Proposition 308 this past November, my budget allocates $40 million to create the Promise for DREAMers Scholarship Program to cover all students, regardless of immigration status.

Katie Hobbs: Support border communities, push for immigration reform

Speak to leaders in border communities and across our state and it's clear they need real solutions after decades of failed leadership by both parties. We must take a holistic, realistic, and humane approach to help solve this issue. That means supporting sheriffs and local law enforcement in impacted communities--and it also means supporting community centers and hospitals. While optimistic, I will also continue to push Congress to do its job and pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Greg Abbott: Texas is the only state in US to build its own border wall

Texans are furious about the lawlessness caused by Biden's open border policies. During the prior administration, we had the lowest illegal crossings in decades, but this past year, the United States set a record for the most illegal crossings ever. I designated Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations. I bussed migrants to sanctuary cities in other states, and Texas is the only state in the history of America to build its own border wall.

The House and Senate are proposing another $4.6 billion to strengthen our border security efforts. But know this: Illegal smuggling is being aided and abetted by U.S. residents. That must stop. We must impose a mandatory minimum jail sentence of at least 10 years for anyone caught smuggling illegal immigrants in Texas.
