Allan Fung:
Strong stance against crime; we need accountability
[AdWatch]: "Did you know Rhode Island has the highest murder rate in New England?" Fung asks in the ad. "That is unacceptable. It's a lack of leadership. A lack of accountability. And that has to stop." Fung goes on to highlight his clash with the
Rhode Island chapter of the ACLU over the right to panhandle on Cranston streets, emphasizes his opposition to "sanctuary cities" for undocumented immigrants and promises to "enforce the law."

Dan McKee:
Proposed parole after 10 years if under 22 at time of crime
The budget proposed by Gov. Dan McKee would have offered parole eligibility after 10 years to anyone under 22 at the time of their crime. The revised version passed by the
General Assembly doubles that time, and explicitly exempts people sentenced to life without parole. McKee is expected to sign the revised budget on Tuesday.

Gina Raimondo:
Evidence-based approach to parole is being smart on crime
[On parole reform]: "It's time to make Rhode Island more fair ... more just," Raimondo said, "This about social justice, racial justice and equality." She rejected criticisms that the measures were soft on crime."This isn't about being soft on crime.
It's about being smart on crime," she said. The new laws adopt an "evidence-based" approach to parole and probation supervision that would dedicate the bulk of the resources to offenders who are most at risk to re-offend.

Luis-Daniel Munoz:
Supports national accreditation standards for police
[On crime standards]: "Rhode Island's version of the law enforcement accreditation process should be expanded to mirror the national accreditation framework, expanding its coverage from 200 to the 460+ policies and standards assessed within the national
accreditation process."How can we expect to adequately assess, and transform, any system of public safety, if law enforcement agencies in different states, cities, and towns are allowed to operate under different standards and expectations?"

Luis-Daniel Munoz:
Every time a person is abused it is no longer a deterrent
[On police reform]: "Every time a youth is abused--every time a human being is abused it is no longer a deterrent. It is a flame that is going to continue to ignite a revolution. LEOBoR [the Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights]] is the levy. We need
to break it." Munoz reflected on growing up in the early 2000s. Officers who knew him would not harass him, but officers that didn't know him did. "Needing a connection with a specific police officer to not have fear to walk the streets is not progress."
