State of Montana Archives: on Welfare & Poverty

Greg Gianforte: Support Christian organizations' outreach on poverty

The primary mission of the Gianforte Family Foundation is to support the work of Christian organizations engaged in education, poverty, and outreach work. There is a predisposition toward organizations serving people in Montana, and those organizations with which the Gianforte family has personal relationships. Smaller gifts are made to non-Christian organizations that enhance the local community of Bozeman, Montana and other causes of particular interest to the family.

John Mues: Daines gutting social net to favor wealthy

U.S. Senator Steve Daines has proven that he is not up to the task, using Montana's U.S. Senate seat to undermine the integrity of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, create billions of dollars of loopholes for multi-national corporations and lobbyists, undermines our public schools and works to walk back protection for women, minorities and children.

Judy Martz: Sell used state vehicles to welfare families

Welfare reform has made great strides in overcoming the myth that parents on welfare don't want to work. We must expand our successful child-care programs for low-income families. We have a bill in the legislature that will buy used state vehicles and sell them to participants in Families Achieving Independence in Montana at an affordable price and reasonable payment schedule.

Reilly Neill: Need to double down on community effort to feed the hungry

No one should be denied the right to healthy food in our state, especially the elderly, poor and young. We need to be building food security as we stand to face a host of other agricultural challenges that may prove overwhelming for our state in the future. Shoring up our social safety nets should be a priority. Rather than reverse the gains we as a state have made against poverty, we need to double down on the community effort to feed the hungry.
