State of Oregon Archives: on Jobs
Knute Buehler:
More job training; less job-killing regulations
In an official announcement Thursday, Buehler said that Oregon "needs change--and I'm ready to lead it." He said he intended to pursue public pension reform, "restore fiscal sanity to
Oregon's budget," and work to boost the state's economy by emphasizing job training and holding back on "excessive, job-killing" regulations.

Vigilance in enforcing Equal Pay laws for women
On average, female full-time workers made 78 cents for every dollar earned by men in 2013. Studies found that women generally earn less than men in nearly every occupation. Some of this gap results from life and career choices
that men and women make, but it underscores the fact that Oregon needs to remain vigilant in enforcing the existing "Equal Pay" laws prohibiting pay discrimination based on sex.

Jeff Merkley:
Minimum wage should be left to the states
As a newcomer to politics, Wehby has also struggled at times to define her views. In an interview in December, she seemed to agree with the assertion that it's wrong for government to mandate a minimum wage.Wehby later clarified that she believes the
minimum wage "should be left to the states." When asked this week if that meant she would oppose an increase in the federal minimum wage--as Democrats are trying to do in Congress--Wehby said, "You know, I'd have to look at each piece of legislation."

Bruce Broussard:
Get more of federal $23B for job training for Oregon
The proposed nationwide budget for fiscal year 2005 includes $23 billion for job training and employment assistance and more than $500 million to help prepare U.S. workers to take advantage of higher paying jobs requiring better skills.
It also includes $250 million in proposed funding targeted to community colleges to train workers for healthy and growing industries and $33 million for expanded Pell Grants for low-income students who complete rigorous coursework in high school.
Currently, Oregon receives a smaller per capita amount of those federal funds than most states.
Bruce Broussard will work to increase the percentage of those funds that go to develop the Oregon economy, job market, and employability of Oregonians.

Kevin Mannix:
Support small businesses to spur job growth
As a small business owner myself, I understand what it takes to succeed. I know what government can do to help businesses prosper and create new jobs. Help small businesses grow by providing more government-backed financing and working with the
commercial sector to reduce interest costs for business loans. Deepen the Columbia River channel to make Portland a more competitive international port, creating jobs in Oregon communities that depend on the Port of Portland.
