Abortion clinic restrictions don't increase health or safety
Legislative Summary: HB57: Women's Health and Safety Act: This bill would provide comprehensive standards [including] physician involvement in abortion or reproductive health centers, and admitting privileges at local hospital required.
This bill would require reporting of name of minor child to Human Resources. CNN analysis: Gov. Bentley signed a law that he says "has been endorsed by pro-life groups across America." Nikema Williams, vice president of public policy
for Planned Parenthood Southeast, said that "medical experts agree that laws requiring admitting privileges for abortion don't increase health or safety for a woman. They just limit a woman's access to safe and legal abortion.
This dangerous law [is a] blatant attack on women's health and rights," she said.
Legislative Outcome: Passed House 68-21-1, Roll #253 on 4/2/13; Passed Senate 25-4-6, Roll #278 on 4/2013; Signed by Gov. Bentley on 4/9/13.
