Mihos has a reputation for developing unique money-raising ideas. He has proposed selling the service plazas on the Massachusetts Turnpike to pay off bonds and take down the turnpike tolls. He even suggested that the Turnpike
Authority sell commercial naming rights to the new Interstate 93 bridge over the Charles River, later named the Zakim-Bunker Hill bridge, claiming it could bring in $100 million from a bank or corporation eager to put its name on the span.

Springfield Initiative: $300M for biotechnology center
Mihos said that a UMass-operated facility devoted to biotechnology, nanotechnology and agricultural engineering research could be "the engine" needed to revive Springfield. Calling it the "Springfield Initiative," Mihos said the state should set aside a
$300 million bond package for construction of a biotechnology center that would serve to provide jobs, train a specialized work force and attract businesses to the region. "Investing $300 million in Springfield could help lift this region," said Mihos.

Mihos, a former board member of the state's Turnpike Authority, said if elected he will propose the sale of the state's 11 service area plazas to pay off turnpike bonds.
He said the sale could reap $240 million. He also called for removing toll booths west of Route 128.

Suspend Mass Pike officers; remove tolls west of 128
What would a Mihos administration look like? Here's the prospective candidate's early vision: drive himself to work. Suspend the senior officers at the Turnpike Authority, investigate their activity, and fire them as necessary. Implement the plan, first
proposed by Mihos in 2003, to sell off the state's Turnpike plazas to the highest bidder, pay off the remaining bonds on the western stretch of the Pike, and (drum roll, please) eliminate all tolls west of Route 128.
