Mark Udall on Social SecurityDemocratic Representative (CO-2) |
A: I support efforts to ensure that all members of Social Security receive equitable benefits. In the past, I have referred to the special committee report on Social Security notch reform, but would be open to more discussion on this issue. I also think we need to ensure that new notches do not emerge in future Social Security adjustments.
A: I have heard arguments on both side of this issue and I think this is a technical matter best resolved by experts, not politicians. However, I am open to continuing the discussion on this issue.
A: Social Security is our most important and most successful retirement-security program, and its long-term financial stability is important to everyone, not just senior citizens. To address long-term solvency, I support creation of a bipartisan solvency commission along the lines of the Reagan-Dole-O’Neill agreement in the 1980s. Let’s put all options on the table, and engage the American people in a bipartisan approach.
The mission of the Alliance for Retired Americans is to ensure social and economic justice and full civil rights for all citizens so that they may enjoy lives of dignity, personal and family fulfillment and security. The Alliance believes that all older and retired persons have a responsibility to strive to create a society that incorporates these goals and rights and that retirement provides them with opportunities to pursue new and expanded activities with their unions, civic organizations and their communities.
