Needed courage to talk about post-traumatic stress

Q: Are you worried that coming forward as a presidential candidate, saying you have post-traumatic stress, could be used against you? Moulton: Absolutely. And, candidly, that's why I haven't talked about it before. I'm someone who talks a lot about the importance of courage, the value of courage in our politics, how so much could be better in Washington if politicians on both sides of the aisle just had the courage to do the right thing. I admit this is a place where I did not have the courage to share my own story, because I was afraid of the political consequences.

Veterans deserve the best health care in the world, period

Q: What about privatizing?

A: If we can't do it through the VA, then that should be an option. That should be an option. I believe what President Obama advocated for. What he wanted was to have a public option that competes with private options as well. What some people in our party want to do is force everybody onto a health care plan designed in 1963. I think we can do better than that.

Focus on cybersecurity to deal with real threats to US

National security is not just about preventing Russia from invading us with tanks into Western Europe. Russia is trying to hack our elections. China is attacking us through the Internet every single day and stealing our business ideas and our military -- that's where a lot of American jobs are going. Rather than build this fifth century ridiculous border wall on the southern border, let's talk about a cyber wall that will stop Russia and China from interfering in our business.

Better funding and services for veterans

Congress is failing our veterans. As a veteran myself, I see it firsthand. We have never had fewer veterans in Congress in our nation's history, so it's not surprising that so few Members of Congress understand the urgency of the problem. There are three things Congress can do to improve how we treat our veterans today:
  1. Improve VA health care quality
  2. Properly fund the VA to eliminate the claims backlog
  3. Expand educational opportunities in the GI Bill.
