Sued Obama's EPA over heavy-handed regulatory burdens
The federal government tried to tell South Carolina what to do, and Nikki repeatedly told it to take a hike. Nikki rejected Obamacare's Medicaid expansion because she knew another unfunded mandate would be disastrous for taxpayers. She also defended
SC's right-to-work laws when Obama's National Labor Relations Board sued the state. She joined other states in suing Obama's EPA over heavy-handed regulatory burdens and defended South Carolina's tough illegal immigration laws from D.C. meddling.

An advocate of school choice and government vouchers
Ramaswamy--who said, if elected, he would abolish the federal Department of Education and push against the unionization of public school teachers--held up institutions like the American Leadership Academy as vital to forcing public schools
to compete and therefore improve. Answering one of the student questions, he made clear he is an advocate of school choice and government vouchers to attend non-public schools.

Strengthen union organizing rules; increase 6% unionization
The Administration strongly supports The PRO Act, Protecting the Right to Organize Act of 2021, which would protect workers' right to organize a union and collectively bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. America was not built by
Wall Street. It was built by the middle class, and unions built the middle class.Due to anti-union efforts by many employers for decades, lax enforcement of existing labor laws, and the failure to restore and strengthen labor laws to address the
real-world of labor-management relations, only 6.3% percent of private-sector U.S. wage and salary workers were union members in 2020. H.R. 842 would strengthen and protect workers' right to form a union by allowing the National Labor Relations Board
(NLRB) to assess penalties on employers who violate workers' right to organize and ensuring that workers who suffer retaliation for exercising these rights receive immediate relief. [See details of H.R. 842]

Support union organizing at Amazon and elsewhere
PROMISE MADE: (CNN S.C. Town Hall, Mar 27, 2020): We should make [it] easier to unionize and take on those companies that spend about a billion dollars a year now trying to prevent people from being able to unionize and taking actions that
prevents them from being able to do that. PROMISE KEPT: (The Hill, Feb. 28, 2021): President Biden offered his support to union organizing efforts as Amazon workers at an Alabama warehouse vote on whether to unionize. "I made
it clear when I was running that my administration's policy would be to support unions organizing and the right to collectively bargain," Biden said. "I'm keeping that promise. Let me be really clear: it's not up to me to decide whether anyone
should join a union," he added. "But let me be even more clear: it's not up to an employer to decide that either. The choice to join a union is up to the workers--full stop."

Universal paid sick leave' $15 minimum wage; support unions
I would ensure every worker had paid sick leave and across the board. It should be up to 14 weeks' paid sick leave. The national minimum wage should be $15, but that's not nearly enough. We should make [it] easier to unionize,
and take on those companies that spend about a billion dollars a year now trying to prevent people from being able to unionize and taking actions that prevents them from being able to do that.

Keep right-to-work laws instead of labor unions
The Kristi Noem campaign issued a news release titled, "Unions Bet Big on Democrat Billie Sutton as Big Labor Works to Overturn Right to Work."The news release said unions have contributed more than $10,000 to Sutton's campaign.
The release also highlighted a tweet by the South Dakota Democratic Party that celebrated Tuesday's rejection of a so-called "right to work" law by voters in Missouri. The law would have banned compulsory union fees in that state.
South Dakota has a right-to-work law, which Noem supports. "That's why we're seeing out-of-state union heads investing thousands into Billie Sutton's campaign," the news release said. "He's their best
bet to repeal the state's decades old right-to-work laws and force South Dakotans into labor unions they don't want to be a part of."

Defended Indiana's "Right-To-Work" law
On Feb. 1, 2012, Indiana set off a cascade of union-busting legislation from Republican statehouses in the Midwest when it became the first state in more than a decade, and 23rd state overall, to enact a so-called "right-to-work" law. The law, barring
union contracts from requiring that non-union members pay representation fees, was signed by outgoing Gov. Mitch Daniels, and created a template for future GOP-led attacks on unions in Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. In separate rulings delivered in
Sept. 2013 and July 2014, two judges in Lake County, IN, concluded that the legislation violated "the state constitution's guarantee of compensation for services." Stating unequivocally that "Indiana is a right-to-work state," Gov. Mike Pence appealed
the ruling to the state's Supreme Court and won a unanimous decision upholding the law in November 2014. [AFL-CIO, 1/19/12; The New York Times, 2/1/12; The Times of Northwest Indiana, 7/25/14, 8/22/14; Courthouse News Service, 11/10/14].

Fought unionization; new jobs in 45 of 46 counties
In two years, we have announced new jobs in forty-five of South Carolina's forty-six counties. We've announced more than 6,300 new jobs to rural areas of our state. We've cut taxes on small business.
We've passed tort reform that, for the first time ever, puts a cap on lawsuit damages.
We've fought against the unionization of South Carolina, cherishing the direct relationship between our companies--who know how to take care of those that take care of them--and their employees.
We've, through the Department of Social Services, moved more than 14,000 families from welfare to work. We've created an Agribusiness partnership to showcase the largest industry in our state.

Government creates conditions; entrepreneurs create jobs
In my first 9 months as governor, we announced over 15,000 new jobs in South Carolina. I say "announced" because government doesn't create jobs. Government can only create the conditions that allow entrepreneurs to create jobs. South Carolina is a
right-to-work state for precisely that purpose--we've seen the job-killing effects of forced-unions laws. I support keeping taxes low on individuals and small businesses because when businesses have extra cash they create jobs.
I've fought Washington regulations, not out of ideology of politics but because they kill jobs.If Congress and the president were serious about putting Americans back to work, they would declare a moratorium on new federal regulations immediately.
The government doesn't create jobs. The private sector creates jobs. The only thing government can do is influence the environment in which jobs will either be created or be destroyed.

Right-to-work helps Boeing deliver jets despite strikes
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) was preparing to sue Boeing for building its 787 Dreamliner assembly plant in South Carolina. The board was alleging that Boeings's decision to locate the production line in S.C. was an illegal labor practice.
Unlike Washington State, where Boeing's other 787 assembly line is located, South Carolina is a right-to-work state where workers can't be forced to join a union. The lawsuit charged that Boeing had illegally retaliated against its largest union, the
International Association of Machinists (IAM), when it opened a 2nd assembly line in South Carolina. The machinists had struck 4 times since 1989 at Boeing's facility in Puget Sound, Washington. Their latest strike, in 2008, had gone on for
8 weeks and cost the company $100 million a day. Production of the 787 was 2 years behind schedule when Boeing made the decision to come to South Carolina. When, I wondered, did it become illegal for a company to want to deliver a product on time?

Economic Bill of Rights: unionize; fair taxation; fair trade
The Green New Deal begins with an Economic Bill of Rights that recognizes our rights to an economy that serves people. This means that everyone willing and able to work has the right to a job at a living wage. All of us have the right to quality
education, health care, utilities, and housing. Each of us has the right to unionize, to fair taxation, and to fair trade. This means that everyone willing and able to work has the right to a job at a living wage. All of us have the right to quality
education, health care, housing and utilities. Each of us has the right to unionize, to fair taxation, and to fair trade.
The promise of an Economic Bill of Rights came out of the last period of widespread, extreme economic hardship, the
Great Depression. In 1944, FDR said that "true individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence." And 20 years later, Martin Luther King raised up the call for an Economic Bill of Rights once again.

I love that we are one of the least unionized states
I love that we are one of the least unionized states in the country. It is an economic development tool unlike any other. Our companies in South Carolina understand that they are only as good as those who work for them, and they take care of their
employees. The people of South Carolina have a strong work ethic, they value loyalty, and they take tremendous pride in the quality of their work. We don't have unions in South Carolina because we don't need unions in South Carolina.
However, the unions don't understand that. They will do everything they can to invade our state and drive a wedge between our workers and our employers. We can't have that. Unions thrive in the dark.
Secrecy is their greatest ally, sunlight their most potent adversary. We can and we will do more to protect South Carolina businesses by shining that light on every action the unions take.

Oppose card check & Employee Free Choice Act
I oppose card check and any efforts like the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) to tip labor law in favor of unions through binding federal arbitration. I am concerned by labor unions' unrelenting campaign for card check, which would eliminate workers' righ
to a secret ballot in unionization elections. I believe workers' rights should be protected and that a card check system would open the door to pressure and intimidation that would disrupt the workplace and threaten businesses' livelihoods.

Ok with either unionized state workers or civil service
Lonegan asked Christie, "You don't understand what it is to create a job. I ran a business for 25 years. I employed 50, 60, 70 people. I know what it is to create jobs." Christie responded, "And, you know what it is to hire illegal immigrants."
Lonegan said the state would be better off without a unionized workforce.
Christie said he wanted either unionized state workers or employees working under a civil service system, but not both, which sometimes have differing rules.
