Keith Rothfus on Abortion

Embryonic stem cell research violates the conscience

Government funding of embryonic stem cell research violates the conscience of millions of Americans who are forced to pay for such research. With 112 existing adult stem cell treatments now in approved use and none using embryonic stem cells, there is no ethical or scientific justification to continue this line of research with valuable tax dollars.

Inalienable right to life from moment of conception

I am pro-life and believe that all human beings have an inalienable right to life from the moment of conception to natural death, and I believe that the nation's laws should reflect this foundational principle of our Republic. I will not support taxpayer funding of abortions in any manner, and I will not support giving any tax dollars to any organization that provides or promotes abortion. Unfortunately, we have a President today who was willing to shut down the government if the nation's largest abortion provider was not allowed to receive hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars. This is not acceptable. I will encourage policies that favor adoption and encourage parental involvement in decisions that involve minors.

No family planning assistance that includes abortion.

Rothfus co-sponsored Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act

Prohibits providing any federal family planning assistance to an entity unless the entity certifies that, during the period of such assistance, the entity will not perform, and will not provide any funds to any other entity that performs, an abortion. Excludes an abortion where:

  1. the pregnancy is the result of an act of rape or an act of incest; or
  2. a physician certifies that the woman suffered from a physical disorder, injury, or illness that would place the woman in danger of death unless an abortion is performed, including a condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy.
Excludes hospitals from such requirement so long as the hospital does not provide funds to any non-hospital entity that performs an abortion.
