Leave Confederate flag decision to people of SC

A questioner wanted to know whether McCain cared more about victory in South Carolina than for people who were offended by the Confederate flag. “No, I do not,” McCain answered. He was then asked, “You think the flag should be taken down?” McCain responded, “I think that’s up to the people of South Carolina.” And he repeated the answer as the questioner persisted in asking, “But is it right or wrong?”

Limit campaign contributions, not free speech

Q: How do you justify suppressing free speech in the name of campaign finance reform?

A: That is a very clever misrepresentation of my position... what we are trying to do is to make sure that the so-called uncontrolled money, the soft money, does not have the influence over... this (political) process. I want you to be involved in every campaign, but I want you to adhere to the $1,000 limits on contributions

Opposed to video gambling, but leave it to states

McCain said Arizona’s lottery, like the one envisioned in South Carolina, helps pay for education. “I personally would oppose video poker, but I would leave that up to the state of South Carolina,” he said. “The lottery is a little closer but I don’t think anyone should have any doubt about the addictive effects of video poker.”
