Adriano Espaillat on Gun Control

Tough anti-gun legislation at local and national levels

As gun violence inflicts one tragedy after another on schools and communities across the country, Congressional gridlock continues. Inaction on this issue has contributed to not only high profile shootings, but also persistent violent and gang-related crime in our community. In Albany,

Adriano helped pass the toughest anti-gun legislation in the nation but we must put an end to our current patchwork of protections by passing strong gun laws on the National level. The fact of the matter is an overwhelming majority of Americans support sensible gun restrictions like universal background checks but these proposals have been stopped in their tracks by Washington gridlock. In Washington, Adriano will work to make strong gun laws a reality.

Supports gun-control legislation.

Espaillat supports the PVS survey question on gun control

The Project Vote Smart Voter Guide inferred how candidates would respond to the question, 'Guns: Do you generally support gun-control legislation?' Project Vote Smart notes, "in response to the increasing unwillingness of candidates to answer issue questions, Project Vote Smart has researched Congressional candidates' public records to determine candidates' likely responses on certain key issues. These issue positions, from the year 2016, are provided [for candidates who] refused to provide voters with positions on key issues covered by the 2016 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests. Historically, candidates have failed to complete our test due to the advice they receive from their parties and advisors and out of fear of negative attack ads."
