State of Missouri secondary Archives: on Civil Rights

Lucas Kunce: Pass Equality Act; ban conversion therapy

Lucas believes that no matter where they live or work, LGBTQ+ Missourians should be empowered to feel safe and supported in their communities. That's why we must act to pass the Equality Act, protect our kids by banning conversion therapy nationwide, and end the epidemic of violence against trans Americans.

Lucas Kunce: Must address systemic racism across our state and country

Lucas believes the Black Lives Matter Movement is the frontline of the fight for human rights. He recognizes the reality that Black Missourians of all ages are more at risk of dying as a result of police use of force compared to white Missourians. Black Missourians face systemic racism and inequities in school, in the workplace, in the criminal justice system, and in communities across our state and our country. Lucas is committed to a more equitable and inclusive America.

Tim Shepard: Is LGBTQ and married to love of his life

YES, WE CAN WIN. There are cynics who think being LGBTQ and married to the love of your life is a political death sentence. Missouri deserves better than that. Let's bring healthcare, education, and infrastructure back to Missouri. And let's prove to the world that ending racism and homophobia is possible. Let's say to the world 200 years after the Missouri Compromise, that we are now a #MissouriUnCompromised.

Tim Shepard: Make schools & jobs safe and accommodating for minorities

There are still significant levels of discrimination at all levels of government for members of our minority communities, whether a racial/cultural one or a function of gender identity or sexual orientation. We have to be the voice in policy discussions and program funding in order to make schools, workplaces, and the community safe and accommodating for these minorities. In addition, there must be a concerted effort to bring them into the policy discussions at every step of the process.
