Allan Fung: Property tax exemptions for disabled veterans

As Mayor, Allan has been at the forefront of listening to, and caring for his local veterans. Cranston became the first community in Rhode Island to provide a property tax exemption for its disabled veterans. So here's what Allan is going to do: Make Military Pensions Tax Exempt. Expand Locations for our Veterans Affairs Offices. Expand Job Opportunities for Veterans. We'll also ensure that veterans hiring preferences in state government and at the universities are in place and being adhered to.

Donald Carcieri: Gratitude to armed forces for defending our freedoms

I'd like to recognize a proud Rhode Islander. Sergeant First Class Eric Blue was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, earned in Afghanistan. Sergeant Blue distinguished himself by his heroic actions during a complex ambush.

Despite being under heavy fire, he heroically maneuvered through the area to find and evacuate a wounded soldier. It is to men and women like Sergeant Blue that we all owe the deepest gratitude for defending our freedoms and protecting our country.

Gina Raimondo: Close deficit, boost budget of RI Veterans Home

Raimondo has announced plans to bolster the Rhode Island Veterans Home in her tax and spending plan for this fiscal year. The plan would close the $2 million deficit in fiscal year 2020 and increase funding next year, WPRI-TV reported. Officials say the proposal will increase revenue by about $880,000 and generate general revenue savings of the same amount.

Gina Raimondo: At least 3% of contracts to go to veteran-owned companies

Raimondo has told veterans she's redoubling the state's efforts to help them. Veterans will now be given a preference when state contracts are awarded. The state gives a similar benefit to women-owned and minority-owned businesses. The bill sets a goal that at least 3% of the total value of all state contracts available to businesses in each fiscal year be awarded to veteran-owned companies.

Jack Reed: No Benghazi cover-up; had 11 hearings & 25,000 documents

Q: You heard Senator McCain call Benghazi and those e-mails a cover-up?

REED: The congress has already had 11 hearings on the topic, over 25,000 pieces of documentation have been provided to the Congress. In fact, the e-mails in question, I believe, were available in February in the context of the John Brennan confirmation hearing.

Q: What about the White House "talking points"? We find these 12 different versions, including a very definitive statement, we do know that Islamic extremists with ties to al Qaeda participated in the attack. That did not appear in the talking points.

REED: That did not appear in the talking points, but I recall when Ambassador Rice was being interviewed on one of the TV shows she essentially said there were extremist elements. She did not contradict that. The president's statement a day after the event, was this was an act of terror. So, there's no attempt that there was a story being created that there was no terrorist involvement.

Seth Magaziner: For veteran's healthcare, tax credits for businesses

Veterans and their families deserve much more than our thanks and appreciation--they deserve high-quality health care including mental health care, affordable education and job training, and employment opportunities as they transition from military service to civilian life. In Congress, he will stand up for veteran's healthcare as well as tax credits for businesses that hire veterans and expanded education and job training programs.

Patricia Morgan: Advocate for anything improving the lives of our veterans

Rep. Patricia Morgan, R-West Warwick, is a strong advocate for anything improving the lives of our veterans and active service members. This advocacy results from the strong military background in her family, as well as her own experiences as the wife of a Navy pilot.

"I was surrounded by veterans of World War II as I grew up in Ohio," she said. Her father and uncle (Thomas and Henry Lazar) both enlisted in March 1942 and fought until the war ended.

Elected to the Rhode Island House in 2010, Morgan, a Republican, became the first female minority leader in 2015.  She is now serving her 12th year in the House. "Two important accomplishments I helped bring about are building the new Veterans Home in Bristol and eliminating the state income tax on military pensions," she said. "I look forward to continuing my advocacy for our military members."

Jack Reed: Trump & Hegseth trying to politicize Defense Department

Apparently, what Trump and Hegseth are trying to do is to politicize the Department of Defense. And it's not surprising. And now, they've turned to DOD. And they want everyone in DOD to be holding to the president, not to the Constitution. They want everyone there to do what they're told, regardless of the law. What was also startling in was firing all the advocate generals of the military. If you're going to break the law, the first thing you do is you get rid of the lawyers.

Jack Reed: We cannot allow our military to be politicized

[Sen. Reed criticizes use of troops in LA]: "I think there's this use of the military as a political force, not as a military force. And I am strongly opposed to that." Reed, a West Point graduate and former commander of an Army paratrooper unit, said, "We cannot allow our military to be politicized."

"The military is sort of props for his productions," Reed said of Trump.
