Blankenship, one of three GOP leading candidates in the May 8 primary to take on Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin in this year's midterm elections, brought up McConnell's marriage to Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao in a radio interview. He said that McConnell's marriage raises "the potential for conflict of interest" in Trump's trade war with China.
"I have an issue when the father-in-law is a wealthy Chinaperson and there's a lot of connections to some of the brass, if you will, in China," Blankenship said. "I read in books that people think he's soft on China," he added.
Chao's father, James Chao, was born in China but moved to the US when Elaine was 8 years old from Taiwan.
McConnell's staff tweeted, "This candidate is as contemptible a human being as you will find."
Blankenship's own fiancee, Farrah Meiling Hobbs, was born in China and moved to the US in 1996
During Blankenship's trial [for corporate poisoning of a water supply from his coal mines], in an interview recorded in 2009, Blankenship said he was considering moving to China, calling the country's "dictatorial capitalism" "very effective" and saying he'd opened a bank account there.
"I'm actually considering moving to China or somewhere and being more like George Washington if I can get citizenship," he said in the 2009 interview. "I can probably get citizenship in India. I'd rather be in China."
"For too long, we have allowed dangerous and adversarial governments to infiltrate our country," the 17 governors wrote in the letter to Biden. "Our states will tolerate such allowances no longer. The Biden administration must reckon with the fact that such entities are plain threats to our national security, our farmers and our citizenry. This is especially true since the CCP enacted a law in 2017 requiring Chinese citizens abroad to collaborate with Chinese security officials on intelligence work--no questions asked."
West Virginia has existing foreign ownership restrictions in effect.
Similarly, Glenn Elliott, the mayor of has taken a strong position in favor of Ukraine. He supports more U.S. military and financial aid to the country. "I do believe that supporting Ukraine financially and militarily in their war against [Russia President Vladimir] Putin's dangerous authoritarianism is critical for our national security interests. We must support Ukraine's efforts now as a broader effort to protect other European nation's sovereignty."

A: Strongly Agree. As the son of a Cuban refugee, Congressman Mooney believes that communism and socialism especially the rise of Communist China, must be condemned and combatted worldwide. He has actively condemned China and Cuba for cooperating to establish a spy base 90 miles from the United States, supported creating the Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, and sponsored a resolution holding China accountable for flying a spy balloon over US soil.
