Andy Beshear: Use A.G. office to rescue victims of human trafficking

As attorney general since 2016, I have used every tool available [in] fighting human trafficking. I still remember the first human-trafficking victim we rescued was three years ago, the Wednesday before Derby. She was just 16 years old. And because a hotel worker made a simple phone call, we were able to make the save and get her the resources she needed for healing.

Robert Goforth: No visitation rights for children produced by rape

Robert Goforth co-sponsored House Bill 169: Amend KRS 403.322 to specify that persons found by clear and convincing evidence to have committed an offense in KRS Chapter 510 that produced a child shall not have custody, visitation, or inheritance rights with regard to that child.

Matt Bevin: Teachers ignore their kids when they protest for pensions

{GOP opponent] Rep. Robert Goforth said Bevin has insulted Kentuckians: "We need a governor who leads more than he lambasts," Goforth said. "People are tired of being ridiculed, maligned and just talked down to."

Bevin at times has strongly criticized those who don't agree with him, saying at one point, for instance, that somewhere in Kentucky a child was sexually assaulted after being left home alone while teachers were in Frankfort to protest changes in their pension system.

Bevin later apologized for that slap at teachers, but on another occasion used the words "selfish" and "ignorant" in talking about opponents of the pension changes.

Andy Beshear: Prosecute 31 active human trafficking cases in Kentucky

Andy Beshear conducted year-end interviews, speaking about several topics and issues that the state currently faces, including human trafficking in the state of Kentucky.

Beshear says there are currently 31 active human trafficking cases in the state. He noted that the AG's office has helped provide training and services to law enforcement and prosecutors to help crack down on the issue.

"Just this year, in the first 11 months, we had more arrests of human traffickers, we had more saves of victims than any two or three year period in our commonwealth's history," Beshear noted. "Even better, we now have more services for those survivors, for those victims."

Matt Bevin: Czar to overhaul state foster care and adoption programs

He promised to appoint a "czar" to overhaul the state's foster care and adoption programs, saying they will become a model for the rest of the nation. "If you are going to be a foster child anywhere in this country, you are going to want to be a foster child in Kentucky," Bevin said.

Bevin also listed people he doesn't want to live in Kentucky, saying the justice system must crack down on people who "abuse the system," drug dealers, people who don't respect law enforcement and "deadbeat Dads." In particular, he said he will focus on increasing the amount of money counties collect from what he called "deadbeat dads," pointing out that Lee County only collects 29 percent of their child support money while Morgan County, which collects the highest percentage, collects 78 percent.
