Nikki Haley on Families & Children

No gender transformations until age 18, like no tattoos

Q [to DeSantis]: You took on Disney after the company criticized your education bill.

DESANTIS: It's wrong to tell a kindergartner, like Disney wanted to do, that you can change your gender. So I stood up against it. Most corporate Republicans would have caved. Now, Nikki Haley sided with Disney. She invited them to South Carolina, even though they were involved in transing kids. She is representative of this corporatist element of the party.

HALEY: I have never said anything related to the transgender stuff he says. I have always fought to protect kids. I have always said that boys need to go into boys' bathrooms, girls need to go into girls' bathrooms, that we shouldn't have any gender transitions before the age of 18. Just like we don't have tattoos before the age of 18, we shouldn't have gender transformation or puberty blockers. But I will tell you that Disney has been woke for a long time. We are not woke in South Carolina. I will always invite businesses to come to South Carolina.

Must be 18 to change your gender

Gov. Ron DeSantis [to Haley]: I am sick of Republicans who are not willing to stand up and fight back against what the left is doing to this country. Other candidates like Nikki Haley, she caves anytime the left comes after her. I did a bill in Florida to stop the gender mutilation of minors; it's child abuse and it's wrong. She opposes that bill.

Gov. Nikki Haley: Ron continues to lie about my record. I actually said his "Don't Say Gay" bill didn't go far enough because it only talked about gender until the third grade and I said it shouldn't be done at all that, that's for parents to talk about.

DeSantis: It wasn't about the parents' rights and education bill. It was about prohibiting sex change operations on minors. They do puberty blockers, these are irreversible. That is what Nikki Haley opposed. She said the law shouldn't get involved in that.

Haley: If you have to be 18 to get a tattoo, you should have to be 18 to have anything done to change your gender.

Private bathrooms instead of transgender girls' bathroom

Ron DeSantis: In South Carolina, they had a bill to try to say that men shouldn't go into girls' bathrooms and [Gov. Haley] killed that bill and she bragged that she killed that bill. I don't think men should be going into little girls' bathrooms and I think we have every right to protect them from that.

Nikki Haley: When I was governor, 10 years ago when the bathroom situation came up, we had maybe a handful of kids that were dealing with an issue and I said we don't need to bring government into this, but boys go into boys' bathrooms, girls go into girls' bathrooms and if anyone else has an issue, they use a private bathroom. Now 10 years later we see that this issue has exploded and this shows how hypocritical Ron continues to be. When he was running for governor and they asked him about that, he said he didn't think bathroom bills were a good use of his time.

Ron DeSantis: I signed a bathroom bill in Florida, so that's obviously not true. I signed it, you didn't. You killed it.
