State of New Hampshire Archives: on Civil Rights
Andru Volinsky:
Women are entitled to equal pay for equal work
I believe income inequality is the greatest threat to our Democracy. As the fifth wealthiest state in the nation, our middle class should not be under siege. Nor, should
New Hampshire be one of ten states to experience an increase in the number of children in concentrated poverty. Paying women less than equally for their work only exacerbates the problem; women are entitled to equal pay for equal work.

Steve Marchand:
Lead movement towards LGBTQ equality
After watching Chris Sununu prioritize right-wing positions on privatizing public education, weakening unions, discouraging voter turnout, failing to lead on LGBTQ equality, and pushing tax cuts for a small
number of large companies at the expense of everybody else, it's more clear to me than ever that New Hampshire deserves a Governor who can make New Hampshire the best state in America to start a family and start a business.

Colin Van Ostern:
Keep NH as model for treating LGBTQ community with dignity
Include All Workers & Strengthen Non-Discrimination Laws: New Hampshire was one of the first states in the nation to enact marriage equality legislation into law. Our state has been a model for treating our LGBTQ community with dignity and respect.
Meanwhile, states pursuing discriminatory laws like North Carolina and Indiana have seen the negative impact to their reputation as a result. As Governor, Colin will protect and promote equality for every Granite Stater.

Fight for rights of our LGBT friends, families & neighbors
Stand Up for NH Values:- Lead the fight in protecting rights of our LGBT friends, families and neighbors.
- Protect our working families by standing up for organized labor and vetoing so-called "Right-to-Work" legislation and
increasing the state's minimum wage.
- Honor the promise to our retirees and ensure their quality of life remains high, their streets are safe, and New Hampshire's natural beauty is protected.

Maggie Hassan:
Instrumental in passing marriage equality in NH
Maggie believes in the rights of all citizens to participate fully in the civic and economic life of our communities. In the State Senate, she was instrumental in passing marriage equality in NH. The Concord Monitor reported "Hassan helped gay marriage
pass the Senate by crafting an amendment that won over hesitant senators. The state representative who sponsored the legislation said Hassan was able to find a consensus among Democratic senators that the existing civil union law was not sufficient."

Kelly Ayotte:
Repeal state gay marriage law; don't repeal DOMA
Q: As you know, NH legalized gay marriage. Can you tell us your position on gay marriage?A: I absolutely support and believe in marriage as between a man and a woman and I do think it's unfortunate that our state has made a different decision on that.
Many of you who are out there who are out there working at the state level, or running for state office, I commend your efforts to repeal that law here in the state of N.H. and I think that's very important. I wish you all well and
I would love to help with any effort to get our law back in the right place on this.
Q: If elected US Senator, would you support or oppose the Federal Defense of Marriage Act?
A: I do not think we should overturn
DOMA, because it's absolutely for states to decide marriage. We don't want one state's decision impacting another state. So I would vote against any repeal of DOMA because of that.

John Lynch:
Consider civil unions for N.H.
I was disappointed that a commission studying civil unions in New Hampshire got bogged down in politics. I believe this issue merits further serious consideration...

I will continue working to make sure we do not discriminate against any of our citizens, on any basis, and that we encourage diversity in state government and at our state institutions.
