I will oppose efforts to impose or expand costly and burdensome mandates on energy providers, which only lead to higher prices that hurt Nevada's families, and have a particularly damaging impact on those with lower incomes. At the same time,
I will remain firmly committed to keeping in place those regulations that are truly needed to ensure the health and safety of our environment. I believe Nevada has an extremely bright energy future, and common-sense policies will help get us there.

Require voter approval for $200M soccer stadium
Bob Beers spots a pickup truck heading his direction: "Don't get out," he yells. He's thrusting a clipboard and pen toward the truck window. "Do you want to sign our petition?" he asks the couple inside. The issue: public funding for a $200 million
downtown soccer stadium, something Beers and other opponents want to see put to voters in the June election.Over the course of a 10-hour day, dozens of people skeptical of the stadium plan stop by Beers' makeshift outpost, fashioned using the
hatchback of his silver PT Cruiser and a small tent. He meticulously chose this particular spot because it is near the densest residential area in Las Vegas.
Returning from the truck with two more signatures in hand, Beers grins broadly.
He was having fun.
Beers found a new cause in the soccer stadium, an opportunity to use his intellect and savvy with numbers to poke holes in complicated and often opaque plans to use $56 million of public money for the $200 million project.

$230M for Public Land Management around Las Vegas
Senator Heller released the below statement on the Administration's proposal to gut the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act's (SNPLMA) special account at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The proposal suggests a recession of $230 million from
the program. Enacted in 1998, SNPLMA allows BLM to sell public land within a specific boundary around Las Vegas. The revenue generated by those sales is invested in important public works projects, ecological restoration, and conservation efforts across
the state."SNPLMA was passed by Congress to increase economic development and promote conservation in Southern Nevada. It represents a good-faith agreement between local, state, and federal officials," said Heller. "This program has invested over
$3.4 billion in over 1,200 conservation projects across Nevada, including wildfire prevention, restoration efforts at Lake Tahoe, and the development of parks & trails. I will defend this program from any attempt to rescind its funding."

ENSIGN: I fought to preserve Nevada's most pristine wilderness areas, and created parks & trails. We've been able to delay the Yucca Mountain project to the point where even its strongest supporters acknowledge that it may never become a reality and that
alternatives must be explored. Q: If your environmental record is that good, why did the League of Conservation Voters give you a failing grade?
ENSIGN: This is typical of a Washington special interest group that doesn't understand our state. I've
gotten awards from wilderness groups in our state, for legislation I co-authored. Washington tries to put us in boxes. They try to score things to make things a partisan issue. The League of Conservation Voters is a very partisan group.
CARTER: The
League of Conservation Voters really pay attention to what's going on. You can always do one thing over here and another over there, but people who really pay attention know who is standing for what. It's a significant deficiency that the Senator has.

EPA should rely on facts, not fake news
Members of the House of Representative Committee on Science, Space & Technology--including representative Jacky Rosen (NV)--have signed a letter to President Trump expressing concern over the President's methods of receiving scientific information.
The letter states that by failing to appoint a qualified director to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy or adequately staff the department, the President has left himself vulnerable to "misinformation and fake news."

We need to bolster our efforts to make Nevada an eco-tourism destination. I acknowledge that Las Vegas in the south and Reno in the north draw much of our attention, but
I want to increase heightened awareness and outdoor recreation opportunities in the big, open spaces outside of our metro regions. Our aggressive pursuit of tourism is vital to our economy.

I think that'll be a major issue in the next election. I'm going to make an extra heavy hit in the conservation area. It's important to everyone.

For too long, big oil companies and polluters have determined our environmental policy in this country with an army of lobbyists. Congressman Cresent Hardy seems to take his conservation cues, particularly on land management, from his good friend
Cliven Bundy. That's not the type of leadership Nevada needs. I am proud of my 94% lifetime rating from the Nevada Conservation League. In the legislature,
I championed bills to increase the percentage of our state's energy that is produced by renewable energy, and I have been a long-time advocate for protecting our public lands such as Basin and Range and Gold Butte.In Congress, I will:-
Ensure that polluters pay for the damage they're doing to the environment.
- Be a voice for keeping our public lands in public hands and push for a funding increase in our land and water conservation fund to protect America's great places.
