This is the decisive decade to meet climate change goals

This is a critical moment, but it's also a jumping-off point going into next year to continue to do everything possible. What President Biden has talked about is seeing this as a decisive decade, between now and 2030, because whatever goals we set for 2050, including making sure that we keep warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius, if we're not taking the steps over the next eight to 10 years to actually do that, we won't hit the target. Climate change not tomorrow's problem; it's today's problem

There is, increasingly, I think an understanding that we're seeing every single day storms, droughts, all sorts of natural occurrences that have been exacerbated by climate change, conflict driven by climate change, refugees driven by climate change, fights over resources driven by climate change. China's incentive on climate change not being world outlier

Q: What incentive does China have to act right now? They seem to be increasingly an adversary of the United States.

BLINKEN: Well, I think the number one interest is in not being a world outlier. Their own people would benefit dramatically from China taking the necessary steps on climate change. So would the international community. To the extent that China cares about it's -- how it's seen in the world, it also needs to think about stepping up.

Work with other countries on climate; US can take lead

We will tackle the climate crisis and drive a green energy revolution. The climate crisis is endangering all of us and costing us more by the month. We can't fix it alone. This is the definition of a problem we need to work together to solve. And we can't settle for only doing the bare minimum. We have to challenge ourselves and each other to do more.
