Howard Phillips on Families & Children

2000 Constitution Party Nominee for President

Family government is the highest form of government

The most important unit of governance is not university, labor union, or even civil government, but it is family government. Parents are responsible for the nurture and admonition of their children. They establish a law system within their home whose standards of justice and lessons taught (by instruction & example) make a lifelong impression on each of those who dwell therein, as do the family’s ministerial activities with respect to health, welfare, property, transportation, and external relations.

Strengthen families by downsizing government

The best way to strengthen families is to let them keep the money they earn, so that at least one parent may always remain at home, so the temptation to turn over our children to non-family child-care providers is much diminished. We can strengthen the family by cutting the Federal government down to Constitutional size, abolishing the income tax, and ending the pressure on both husbands and wives to work outside the home with one parent trying to generate enough income to pay taxes to the government.
