Uses term 'man-caused disasters' instead of 'terrorism'
In these politically correct times, it's even too much to ask that our own government refer to Islamic terrorists as "Islamic terrorists." Instead we hear the deliberately vague expression "extremists." This is nonsense. People who want to kill
Americans are terrorists. Apparently even the word "terrorism" is too judgmental, since Janet Napolitano announced shortly after being named secretary of homeland security that she preferred the ridiculous term "man-caused disasters."

2009: system worked to avoid Christmas bomber
On Christmas Day 2009, a 23-year-old Nigerian Muslim, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, tried to explode a bomb on a flight bound for Detroit. As the plane approached the runway, alert passengers noticed smoke coming from his seat, pounced on him, and dismantle
the device. This last-minute intervention prevented the deaths of the 300 passengers on board.Nevertheless, Napolitano hailed the incident as proof that the administration's efforts to prevent terrorism were succeeding; saying, "the system has worked
really very, very smoothly over the course of the past several days."
After wiser people at the White House got hold of Napolitano, however, she backed off her statements of triumph. Obama sharply criticized the "systemic failure."
The fact that
Abdulmutallab--a man who was on a list of possible terrorists--was allowed to board a plane with a bomb without being detected, illustrates not only a colossal flaw in the air safety system, but also the severely flawed antiterror policies in place today

Signed legislation refusing to implement REAL ID standards
Napolitano has been a prominent figure in the debate over REAL ID, a federal program launched after the 2001 terror attacks to make driver’s licenses more secure. In 2007, Napolitano struck a deal with the
Homeland Security Department that was supposed to lead to her state adopting the REAL ID standards. But in June of this year, she signed legislation refusing to implement the standards.

Emergency calling system for health and safety information
For 2004 we will continue work on a statewide 211 system, a phone number similar to the 911 system that residents will be able to dial for critical health and safety information in times of emergency.
A comprehensive homeland security plan for authorities, combined with a 211 system to help citizens, is forming a web of readiness that is making Arizona a stand-out state for emergency preparedness.
