Current agricultural practices erode and degrade our precious topsoil. These practices require large-scale use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers that pollute our groundwater and are unhealthy for consumers and farmers. In contrast, I support sustainable, organic agricultural practices proven to produce healthy, high-quality food without hazardous chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Moratorium on genetically engineered food

Given the far-reaching ecological and health risks posed by genetic engineering, I would support a moratorium on the commercialization of genetically engineered foods and their release into the environment until the safety of such organisms can be firmly established. Strengthen Clean Water & Air Acts & other enviro regs

Strengthen the regulation and enforcement of the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act.
Increase the fees charged to mining companies using federal lands.
Require states to fully compensate citizens when environmental regulations limit uses of privately-owned land.
Encourage further development and use of alternative fuels to reduce pollution.
Strengthen emission controls on all gasoline or diesel-powered engines, including cars, trucks, and sport utility vehicles.
Promote the selling of pollution credits between nations to encourage industries to decrease pollution levels.
Strengthen logging restrictions on federal lands.
Strengthen regulations governing the security, safety, transportation, and storage of spent nuclear fuel and waste.
Supports the United Nations (Kyoto Conference) treaty regarding global climate change.

Genetically engineered foods are not tested or labeled

One issue that I think stands out is this nutritional experiment in which we are all guinea pigs--the genetic manipulation of our food supply. And that means corn, for example, that has been genetically engineered to produce its own pesticides, making the corn toxic--poisonous to insects, for example, insects that eat it. What is the effect of such foods on human health? We don’t know. There’s no safety testing required for these genetically manipulated foods, and there is no labeling.
