Dick Zimmer on Gun Control

Republican Senate challenger

Endorsed by the NRA in 1990 and 1992

Zimmer did vote against an assault weapons ban six times from 1989 to 1994. But he later voted for the ban when it was part of a major crime bill. While Zimmer voted against the Brady Bill in 1991, he voted for a different version of the bill in 1993. In 1990 and 1992, the National Rifle Association endorsed Zimmer and helped campaign for him. But the NRA opposed Zimmer in this year's Senate primary race. Source: New York Times Oct 31, 2006
