Don Stenberg on Gun Control

Republican Senate challenger (NE)

Opposed nominee for stripping Americans of gun rights

Bruning tried to portray himself as the only Republican in the field who can defeat the presumed Democratic nominee, former U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey. Bruning talked several times about his efforts to defeat Obama's health-care measure, noting he was one of the first attorneys general to file a lawsuit against the controversial law. Bruning condemned the growth of "nanny government."

Supports Constitutional right to keep and bear arms

Defending the 2nd Amendment: I am proud to have received A or A+ ratings from the NRA in all my previous elections for supporting the 2nd Amendment and our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

Supports absolute right to gun ownership

We need criminal control, not more and more restrictions on law abiding gun owners and sportsmen. I favor long prison terms for criminals who use a firearm to commit a crime. We also need tougher enforcement of current laws that prohibit felons from possessing firearms. And we need to demand social responsibility from TV and movie producers who promote and glorify a culture of violence. We do not tolerate pollution of our air and water. We should not tolerate the pollution of our children’s minds.
