Safe at Home: mail-forwarding for domestic violence victims

Secretary Carnahan spoke today to raise awareness about the new Safe at Home Address Confidentiality Program during Crime Victims' Rights Week. The program helps protect survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, rape or stalking by providing a substitute mailing address through the Secretary's office.

"Each month we hear more tragic stories about Missourians affected by domestic violence, stalking, rape and sexual assault. We are constantly reminded of how this issue affects so many people all across the state," said Carnahan. "It is crucial that we get the word out that this service is available. Spreading the word about this program could help save lives."

The Safe at Home program provides participants a designated address to use when creating new records with state and local agencies and the courts, and acts as a mail forwarding service. These services limit an assailant's ability to access public information which could identify the new location of a survivor who is in the program.
