Responsive, responsible government: people ahead of politics

The biggest problem with state government is a lack of focus and clear direction. Most legislators, while well-intended, contribute to the problem with bills that address only narrow interests or minor concerns. We tinker around the edges of public policy, as if we're afraid to even try tackling anything else. Instead, we should work to identify those things most important to the future of our state and the people who live here, and then focus on moving ahead on those priorities. I suggest the following:

Put people ahead of politics Judge people and their ideas according to merit--not according to political favors, party affiliation, or campaign contributions.
Open up citizen access & participation at all levels of government. Whose government is it, anyway?
Get a handle on state finances, and direct resources to identified priorities.Be open about what's in state coffers, and how funds are spent.

$4000 limit on individual campaign contribution

Senator Turbak Berry voted YES on HB 1048, Campaign Contribution Reform. The Bill Passed the Senate 24 - 11.

Limits individual contributions to candidates for state office to $4,000 per year
Limits individual contributions to legislative or county candidates to $1,000 per year
Limits individual contributions to political action committees and political parties to $10,000 per year
