Villaraigosa said leaders will have to address how California delivers water and examine ways to make the business climate more friendly amid the constant concerns of environmentalists, he said. Added 669 acres of open space & 1,549 miles of bikeways

To mark his time as mayor, his staff put together a 60-page book, titled "Straight from the Heart of L.A." that details his accomplishments over the past eight years. Among the accomplishments:

20% of energy coming from renewable sources
75% increase in recycling
adding 669 acres of open space
adding 1,549 miles of bikeways
installing LED streetlights
reducing port emissions.

Retrofitting buildings helps economy and environment

Mayor Villaraigosa launched the LA Commercial Building Performance Partnership, an innovative, Recovery Act-funded program that will help owners of commercial properties make their buildings more energy efficient. With commercial buildings accounting for 57% of the energy consumption in the City, LA has a large built-in market for these retrofits.
