Ken Cuccinelli on Jobs

Government does not create jobs; people do

The government does not create jobs, our people do. With the downturn in the economy and the growth of the federal government and taxes, the hope of entrepreneurship has been diminished. The best way to recover from a recession is to establish pro-growth policies that will provide incentives for the creation of new small businesses, expand midsize businesses, and help corporations create more jobs. The owners of small businesses today are the business leaders of tomorrow. It is time to restore the hope of entrepreneurship and help Virginia's middle class families find jobs and take back their financial freedom.

Workers should not be forced to join unions

On the labor front, Virginia worked with a dozen other state attorneys general to take on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) when it tried to sanction a private company for building a manufacturing plant in a state that didn't require workers to join the union to get a job with the company. The NLRB charged the Boeing Company with unfair labor practices for simply setting up a factory in the right-to-work state of South Carolina instead of expanding its unionized plant in Washington.

In right-to-work states, workers can't be forced to join labor unions as a condition of employment--it's the workers' choice to join unions. In non-right-to-work states, the law says join the union or don't get the job.

In reality, the labor board's complaint against Boeing was just blatant favoritism by Obama-appointed board members to Democrat-leaning unions.
