Raise minimum wage; working full time should avoid poverty
Since Phil Bryant became Governor, Mississippi has lost over 40,000 jobs, while the rest of the country added over 8,000,000. Statistics don't tell the real story, though. Mississippi families are struggling to pay their bills,
living from paycheck to paycheck and never quite catching up. I was a single mother in that situation, and remember well the stress, worry and sense of despair that hangs over every day.
Working class and poor Mississippians are not lazy--many of them are working two and three part-time jobs for low wages and uncertain hours, while trying to go to school and making sure their children do as well.
I believe that one important way we can start lifting Mississippians' lives is to raise the minimum wage. No one who works full time (or more) should live in poverty.
