Dan Mongiardo on Energy & Oil

2004 former Democratic challenger for Senate (KY)

Invest in clean energy, renewables, and efficiency

Our nation’s dependence on foreign oil has never been higher. As a result, all across the state Kentuckians are paying nearly $2 a gallon for gasoline. As a U.S. Senator, I will work to secure our energy independence by utilizing Kentucky’s natural resources. I propose creating tax incentives to help build ethanol and biodiesel refineries in Kentucky. These plants will significantly increase the percentage of our fuels that come from cleaner, renewable sources of energy. Additionally, it is important that we secure a future for Kentucky’s coal miners. We can do this by investing in technologies that help reduce air pollution while increasing energy efficiency. Developing clean coal technologies is a crucial step in securing the role of coal as an energy source of the future. Finally, we must make a serious investment in the less expensive, environmentally friendly fuels of the future.
