John Frohnmayer on Energy & Oil

Independent Challenger

Reduce dependence on oil; invest in wind, Waves, & biomass

We must reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and this means (collectively gasp) higher gas prices. It means wind, wave and biomass energy. And that takes investment.

Raise Federal gasoline taxes to pay for high speed rail

As your next US Senator, I will have the courage to challenge the status quo and push for real change that creates a sustainable environment for our world. Specifically, we should do the following:
  1. Require that all new light bulbs be compact fluorescents (CFL's).
  2. Require that new appliances have reduced standby usage.
  3. Adopt the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Standards for all new buildings and for all residences.
  4. Establish federal grants or tax incentives for retro-fitting buildings in accordance with LEED Standards.
  5. Establish a Federal program for high speed rail transportation between population centers of 500 miles or less distance.
  6. Finally, and this is the big one, we need higher Federal gasoline taxes to pay for high speed rail and encourage use of more efficient automobiles, carpooling and reduced car travel.
