Dave Curson on Immigration

Illegal aliens are NOT criminals even if breaking the law

I believe that people who come to this country seeking a better life for themselves and their families are NOT criminals even though in so many cases they are breaking the law. The easy availability of work and historic lax enforcement of our laws enable and encourage those pursuing the American dream. I do believe that the employers who exploit undocumented workers are criminals and should be severely prosecuted. At the same time, employers who want to play by the rules should be given a reliable way to verify that their employees are here legally.

Our system should establish an application mechanism where foreign workers with unique skills could apply, be screened to eliminate anyone who may pose a threat to our citizens or our country, and then be made available so that employers seeking to hire workers where US workers are not available, workers with unique skills or farmers looking for seasonal work can hire legal foreign employees.
