Vivian Davis Figures on Health Care

Democratic Senate Challenger; member of State Senate

Broaden Meals on Wheels, senior mobility units, and Medicare

Q: In 2007 the government has begun "income relating," or means testing. Higher income seniors will have to pay more for their doctors' services and outpatient coverage. Do you support Means Testing?

A: Only 21% of employers offer supplemental health coverage to retired employees enrolled in Medicare making government and private senior service agencies crucial to keeping America's elderly clothed, housed and fed. However, even these agencies are buckling. They have been hit by the same financial struggles that so many of us are overcome by--higher costs for food and fuel. We must ensure that programs like Meals on Wheels, senior mobility units, and expanded Medicare are at a minimum preserved and at best broadened to serve our seniors. Social Security is the only form of income for three out of 10 retired elders, and rising Medicare costs are consuming more of that monthly check.

If America is wealthiest nation, why not healthiest nation?

We must put patients first. If America is the wealthiest nation, why are we not the healthiest nation? I will fight for affordable health care for all Americans. I will work with others to require the government to negotiate for lower drug prices, and stop the insurance and drug companies from price gouging.
