I agree that the federal government should not hamper a senior's ability to live in a financially stable environment. I look forward to examining a wide array of proposals to strengthen Social Security and will continue to seek methods of improving the Social Security system for those who are now on it and those who will depend on it in the future.

Privatized government-managed accounts OK

• Allow workers to invest a portion of their payroll tax in private accounts which are managed by the government.
• Invest Social Security's assets collectively in stocks and bonds instead of U.S. Treasury securities.
• Invest a portion of the budget surplus into the Social Security trust fund.

Reduce taxes on Social Security earnings.

The Senior Citizens Fairness Act:
Raise the Social Security earnings limit, which currently forces seniors out of the workforce; repeal the 1993 tax hikes on Social Security; and provide tax incentives for private long-term care insurance to let older Americans keep more of what they have earned over the years.
